Nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced on February 2, 2010 by Academy President Tom Sherak and actress Anne Hathaway. The production giant, Relativity Media and their subsidiary Rogue Pictures was at the forefront garnering 6 Oscar nominations. The Fellini remake of "8 ½" dubbed "9", received four nominations which isn’t surprising given the all-star cast.

The stunning Ms. Penelope Cruz was nominated for best supporting actress in a supporting role. John Myhre and Gordon Sim were nominated for their Art Direction. The setting and visual appearance of Nine was flawless. They did a near perfect job in translating the desired moods, messages, concepts, and underdeveloped ideas into imagery, which is the primary goal of every art director. Coleen Atwood acquired an Oscar nomination for her role in costume design. Atwood, who has won two Academy awards for her creations, is quite amazing -- designing for such movies as Sweeney Todd, Memoirs of a Geisha and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Well, Coleen Atwood has done it again, never ceasing to surprise us with her genius! Finally, Maury Yeston was graced with his first Oscar nomination for best original song in a motion picture, "Take It All". Yeston is best known for writing the music and lyrics of Broadway productions.

Relativity Media and Rogue Pictures generated even more Oscar buzz with their film "A Serious Man" which was acknowledged with two Oscar nominations. The Coen Brothers were once again nominated for both their Original Screenplay and Best Picture. Combining thoughtful eccentricity, wry humor, and arch irony, the Coen Brothers may have accrued even another Oscar win to add to their list.

To date, Relativity Media as earned 35 Oscar nominations but after today they have upped their total to 41 and I am sure we can expect many more to come!
