Biography

Tobey Maguire, whose most recent role was as Sam Cahill in Brothers, continues to garner both critical and commercial success in a career renowned for the actor’s ability to deliver standout performances in both big budget blockbusters as well as thought-provoking independents. Maguire reunited with director Sam Raimi for Spiderman 3. The franchise is one of the most successful in film history as Spiderman, Spiderman 2 and Spiderman 3 account for three of the fifteen highest grossing films of all time. Maguire’s career has been defined by notable performances, collaborating with some of the most celebrated minds in cinema.

Maguire’s credits include his memorable portrayal of horse jockey ‘Red Pollard’ in Gary Ross's Seabiscuit, which helped lead the race horse epic to seven Academy Award nominations including Best Picture; Maguire’s gentle portrayal of a misunderstood youth in Ang Lee’s 1997 Academy-Award nominated film, The Ice Storm, established Maguire with both audiences and critics alike. This performance came on the heels of Maguire’s breakthrough in Griffin Dunne's 1996 Academy Award nominated short Duke of Groove.

As a producer, Maguire is currently developing an array of thought-provoking projects through Maguire Entertainment, including: Robotech, a sprawling sci-fi epic written by Lawrence Kasdan and based on the popular television series; Crusaders, which follows the back story of landmark “Brown v. Board of Education” Supreme Court case, also directed by Ross and written by Danny Strong; Everything Changes, the big-screen adaptation of Jonathan Tropper's bestselling novel, produced by Maguire and Wendy Finerman; Maguire Entertainment is also developing an HBO series with writer Chris D’Arienzo about the dark side of stand-up comedy. Maguire's first outing as a producer was the big-screen adaptation of David Benioff's novel The 25th Hour for the Walt Disney Company. The critically acclaimed film was directed by Spike Lee and stars Ed Norton.
